Mechanical behaviour of bimodal kaolin clay with aggregates

چکیده

Soil structure has been recognised as a key feature in the understanding of soil’s mechanical behaviour, and research efforts have made trying to relate them. However, main difficulties encountered are that numerous factors can simultaneously affect behaviour soils. Among these factors, presence aggregates is decisive for fabric configuration bimodal The aim this paper evaluate effect on soils with no mineralogical variability. For purpose, Kaolin Clay were obtained by compaction at high stresses samples different content produced. All subjected unidimensional consolidation direct shear tests. Results showed increase macro-pores affected compressibility, decreasing pre-consolidation altering compressibility coefficients. interaction between generated an friction angles aggregates, which also impacted their volumetric during shearing. Thus, present work contributes better influenced exclusively aggregates.

Evolution of Dilatancy Angle during Shearing of Kaolin Clay with Different Microfabrics

The mechanical response of clay mass can be significantly affected by the distribution and arrangement of the particles and the interaction between them. A series of compression and extension tests under drained and undrained conditions were performed on normally consolidated and heavily over-consolidated clay specimens with different microfabric. The experimental data indicates strong influenc...

Fire Performance of Fiber Board Coated with Nano Kaolin-Clay Film

Fiberboard is a common interior material used both in China and the United States of America. The increase in demand for interior materials has raised concerns regarding combustibility of the materials. The pyrolysis characteristics of fiber, phenolic resin (PF), and nano kaolinclay (NK) were investigated using thermogravimetry. The fire performances of samples coated with a mixture of NK and P...

Optimizing of Iron Bioleaching from a Contaminated Kaolin Clay by the Use of Artificial Neural Network

In this research, the amount of Iron removal by bioleaching of a kaolin sample with high iron impurity with Aspergillus niger was optimized. In order to study the effect of initial pH, sucrose and spore concentration on iron, oxalic acid and citric acid concentration, more than twenty experiments were performed. The resulted data were utilized to train, validate and test the two layer artificia...

An experimental and constitutive investigation on the chemo-mechanical behaviour of a clay

Engineering issues for which the understanding of the chemo-mechanical behaviour of soils is relevant include wellbore stability problems, the salinification of groundwater, and nuclear waste storage. However, despite the vast number of situations in which couplings between chemistry and mechanics occur, the available constitutive models rely on limited experimental evidence. This paper present...

Undrained Behaviour of Clay Reinforced with Surplus Carpet Fibres

A collaborative research programme between University of Bolton and Bradford University is investigating the effect of surplus carpet fibres on the strength as well as other important geotechnical properties of cohesive soils. Initial work concentrates on the manner in which the fibres affect the quick undrained properties of the reinforced soil. Four different surplus carpet fibre types are be...
